Crystals for Chakras

What are Chakras?

The chakras are the seven main energy centers of the body. This includes the root chakra, sacral chakra, solar plexus chakra, throat chakra, third eye chakra, and the crown chakra. These energy centers exist at the front as well as the back of the body; from the base of the spine to the top of the head. Each of the chakras is associated with a particular area of the physical body as well as its corresponding mental and emotional states of being.

The word chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit and when functioning optimally, our chakras should spin just like a wheel; allowing for an interconnected, free-flow of energy throughout our entire system. When one or more chakras is blocked or stuck, it can affect the flow of energy in our whole body and can make us feel off or out of balance.

How Do chakras get blocked?

Chakras can get blocked for a variety of reasons; mostly based on our individual makeups and our day to day experiences. There are various practices which can help to open up the chakras and correct energetic imbalances within the body. These include meditation, reiki, yoga, acupuncture, and of course, crystals!

Each crystal has its own unique energetic frequency based on its molecular structure, color, and shape. Depending on its particular vibration, a crystal can correspond with one or more of the body’s energy centers and when used in intentional practice can help realign each corresponding chakra.

Below is a list of some of the best crystals for each of the seven chakras:

Root Chakra: Hematite, Red Jasper, Garnet

The root chakra sits at the base of the spine. It is associated with our sense of survival, our basic needs, and our feelings of security. If we are feeling out of balance in any of these areas, most red, brown, and black crystals and stones can be helpful as these colors resonate with the root chakra.  Hematite is especially assistive when we want to open up spiritually, while still maintaining a strong connection to our physical body and the Earth. Red Jasper is often referred to as the “supreme nurturer;” as it gently but firmly grounds us during times of extreme stress and transition. Garnet is a wonderful stone for empaths and energetic sensitives as it stabilizes and protects the emotional body while encouraging presence and a grounded awareness.

Sacral Chakra: Carnelian, Moonstone, Orange Calcite

The sacral chakra is the center of creativity, sexuality, and fertility. It sits right below the belly button and between the hips. When this center is out of balance, it can affect our mood, our creative flow, and our overall sense of purpose and direction in life. Orange, reddish-orange, peach, and golden crystals tend to be the best crystals for the sacral chakra.

Carnelian is known to ignite personal passions, both in our careers and our relationships. Moonstone is associated with the moon and therefore can help with rebalancing the emotional body as well as hormonal and/or reproductive cycles. Another sacral energy activator is Orange Calcite, which boosts creativity and promotes unique, innovative thinking.

Solar Plexus Chakra: Citrine, Pyrite, Tiger eye

The solar plexus chakra is located right at the upper abdomen between the ribs and the belly button. It is associated with all aspects of the personality and how we move through the world as our own unique self. Because of this, issues around self-confidence and self-worth are often brought up when discussing a blocked solar plexus chakra. The color associated with this particular energy center is yellow or gold and crystals with these particular colors are great for sacral chakra rebalancing.

Citrine gives us a natural confidence boost; activating the will and personal drive necessary to manifest our desired circumstances. Pyrite is a powerful energy protector and will benefit those looking to experience luck and prosperity while stepping out in the direction of their dreams. Tigers Eye assists those looking to be more decisive and confident in their actions.

Heart: Rose Quartz, Emerald, Pink Mangano Calcite.

The heart chakra includes the area around the heart and lungs. It is associated with compassion and love, both for self and others. Those dealing with issues related to a blocked or out of balance heart chakra may benefit from working with heart-centered crystals, especially those that are pink or green.

One of the most popular heart chakra stones is Rose Quartz, which is known as the stone of love. It can be a particularly helpful crystal for those seeking to heal or rebalance their emotions, especially in the wake of a relationship breakup or traumatic event. Emerald is another great stone for anyone looking to open up their heart to another person; as it facilitates gentle openness and the free flow of emotions. Pink Mangano Calcite is used by many reiki practitioners and crystal healers as it resonates with the energies of universal love, peace, and forgiveness.

Throat: Blue Apatite, Lapis Lazuli, Blue Lace Agate.

The throat chakra sits at the front and back of the throat and is the center of communication. Blue, light blue, and bluish-green crystals are usually associated with the throat chakra and can help with issues around self-expression.

Lapis Lazuli is a powerful throat chakra stone as it activates fearlessness in one’s ability to express their own authentic truth. Blue Lace Agate is a calm and soothing stone which brings comfort to those experiencing stage fright or hesitation in communicating with others. Blue Apatite is a wonderful companion for artists and creators, as it facilitates connection with our imagination and stimulates the joy of sharing our work with the world.

Third Eye: Amethyst, Fluorite, Clear Quartz.

The third eye chakra is located right between the eyebrows and represents our intuition and intellect. The colors associated with this energy center are purple and indigo.   Fluorite is one of the most popular third eye chakra crystals. It clears out negative thoughts and/or psychic static; helping anyone who struggles with mental fogginess or energetic overwhelm. Among its many other benefits, Amethyst calms the mind so we can experience a deeper spiritual connection and open up to receive divine wisdom. While Clear Quartz can amplify the energy of other stones present and therefore affect any and all chakras, it does a wonderful job of clearing away any lower vibrational energies and psychic blocks.

Crown: Selenite, Celestite, Apophyllite.

The crown chakra sits at the top of the head. This is our center of divine connection and spiritual insight; where we can tap into higher states of consciousness. Its colors and corresponding crystals are white, gold, and violet.  Apophyllite is a rare but powerful crown chakra crystal. It stimulates energy flow through the crown and third eye centers; opening us up to receive divine inspiration and wisdom. Celestite is a peaceful stone which ushers in higher vibrational thinking and helps us maintain a state of mental clarity. Selenite is an auric cleanser that can help realign us with source energy when we’re feeling stuck or bogged down by too much human negativity.

How do I use crystals with my Chakras?

There are lots of ways to work with crystals and the chakras. You might want to wear your crystal over the chakra; such as putting on a long necklace so that the stone rests over your heart chakra. Or you might want to keep a sacral or root chakra stone in your pocket.  You can also meditate with your crystals, either by placing a crystal on each chakra while lying down or by holding a crystal in your hand and purposefully focusing your awareness to each corresponding energy center. Try to breathe into the chakra and visualize it spinning; releasing any stuck energies and restoring your system back into balance.
